Gansu Press Center for the 2008 Beijing Olympics formally opened in Lanzhou on July 21. The centre is mainly responsible for receiving and providing information for domestic and foreign media crews with legal certificates to make interviews during the period of Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympics Games.

Equipped with facilities such as the Internet, computers, telephones, and fax, the Center also has manuals on Gansu. The Press Center is in charge of checking and issuing certificates for non-registered journalists, receiving interview applications, holding press conferences and press briefings, and organizing individual and collective interviews. The Center will also answer telephone inquiries from journalists, provide media crews with relative information, and offer network communication and signal transmission as well.
